You can lose several inches when not on a level surface. There are certain heights below eye-level where it's really awkward to use a viewfinder and make adjustments to the camera and head. I only need the short column to fully splay the legs or I don't bother with it. You just get a second column and cut it off. The advantage of a column is when you need to target the subject based on height, like nature close-ups or on rough terrain where you would have to repeatedly adjust the legs with no column.ĪFAIK, anything with an adjustable column will be removable and reversible, but they might not offer a short column. Given a choice, I prefer flip-locks on a more conventional tripod where there are only 3 on each leg and I'm probably going to full extension to start. Narrowed it to these because they are closest to what I want/need for the same features and price. Slightly more expensive than Sirui but they generally rate as very stable and stiff for their price. Some have center colums (I don't think they are removable, and not with flip locks). they seem to have flip locks (though only special order). ![]() Leaning towards this one if height is not limiting. I have to see if the 1204 is not too low. Removable long center column to make it even lighter. This is at the bottom now because of price and likely won't really be better for what I need than the others. The FLM CP30 S4 is still an option, and it might replace my better tripod sometimes (it's much lighter), but it doesn't fold to the smallest size, it has twist locks, no center column, and relatively expensive (though on the less expensive side for this type of tripod). It does add a bit of weight, and flimsiness isn't a big deal since when I need a more sturdy tripod in expense of weight I use a different one anyway. It did came handy on the Slik when I needed to have it higher than a fence one time. I'm trying to decide if I need a center column. Used Slik Mini-Pro III, Tabletop Tripod with Compact Ball Head, Supports up to 3 Pounds E 5.0. The cheap Slik has nice quiet flip locks, but obviously not as good/strong (and overall it is way more flimsy). Reviews & ratings: Used Slik Mini-Pro III, Tabletop Tripod with Compact Ball Head, Supports up to 3 Pounds E MFR: 611-351. I do use the tripod in quiet concerts, but can't see that I'd need to adjust it during the concert. A smooth moving fluid effect pan head with one handle operation makes moving and positioning the camera quick and simple. The 59 inch maximum height puts it at eye-level when it’s fully extended. ![]() Looking for a tripod up to 1.5kg but preferably less.Ī few features I'm uncertain about are the leg clamps and center column.Įven with their disadvantages, I like the flip locks more than the twist locks, though on my Manfrotto they have very strong springs so not the most comfortable and they are a little loud. This tripod matches well with entry level DSLR camera and mirriless cameras. I would probably never have more than 2kg on it. even my backup 80$ very light Slik aluminium tripod is not too bad, except it is large and doesn't fold to a small size at all. I need a tripod that is the easiest to carry. I was considering the FLM CP30 S4 when I realized it was way overkill.
